There are many defenses against an attempt to throttle you, some of them pretty vicious.  Here Brandon demonstrates "Grape-Vining" as a start to one way of dealing with a strangling attack; a Maki-Kome (winding throw) or Ura Nage (back-throw) usually follows this. Autumn is Uke. Note the large-circle leverage Brandon invokes, and how it breaks his attacker’s grip and flows naturally to an elbow-lock submit.
